I bought Hacking Exposed 6 when it came out in 2009. I was surprised to find Hacking Exposed 7 (the most recent version) was written in 2012, 6 years ago. It is my fault for not looking closely at the available information. Looking through the section titles listed in the At A Glance section, most of the original parts are present in the new book and have almost identical page numbering up until part 6 Cyber crime and Advanced Persistent Threats, there the page numbering diverge. It appears as though chapter 7 Network Devices, present in version 6 is gone in version 7, however if your examine the contents pages you will see the same material is present in both books but rearranged into different chapters. The one seemingly original chapter in version 7 is Mobile Hacking. In the years between version 7 published in 2012 and the end of 2018 hacking has changed greatly but, with the exception of sections on Cybercrimes and Mobile Hacking, the most recent version of Hacking Exposed seems to be a rehash of information already present in the nine year old Hacking Exposed 6.

Nice book, but old techniques. Still a good read for anyone starting out.

I recall the first time I read a Hacking Exposed book. Learned some new things. By the time this tome rolled out I had read portions of it in prior editions and there wasn't that much new material. This was a few years ago and now we're happily running Win 10. So many of the basics are still the same though. Still a decent read.

I'm in vulnerability assessment and pen testing field started last year. I seldom buy computer books these day but this is one of the exceptions.Company paid $5000 for my SANS 560 course but not willing to spend the money to buy this book so I got it for myself.I'm still reading it and all I can said is, go get yours.

Read it carefully, do not miss a step. This title presents clearly what hackers do and vulnerabilities of your own system. Great examples of tools used by hackers. After reading the book I got armed with tons of information against hacking. Vigilance is not a option. Strongly recommended....

Excellent Book. Worth the money.

Overall a good book. It has been updated many times over many years so some of the info is very dated. For example, there is a chapter on hacking modems. Our company has zero modems but I suppose some companies still have them. I just skimmed over that. Also, some of the threats discussed have long been patched by everybody and effectively eradicated. There may be some educational foundation for discussing but the book is long already so I would prefer they be removed. I liked the newer chapter on cell phone hacking and jail breaking.

A quick note for anyone deciding which edition to buy: The "25th Anniversary Edition" removes the book's final chapter completely, which feels utterly disingenuous and revisionist to me. While Rhodes' "Dark Sun" covers the same ground as the omitted epilogue, this edition ends so abruptly I'm amazed there wasn't an advertisement for the other books in his "nuclear anthology" on the final page. The Kindle version is somewhat flawed; there are quite a few typos and dropped punctuation, and it's not always obvious when direct quotations begin and end. I'd recommend buying one of the older physical editions if you want to read this book as it was meant to be read."The Making of the Atomic Bomb" is a richly detailed epic, a table-shaking beast of a book that frequently sent me on evening walks to ponder and process the last few chapters I'd read. This is more than just a book about Hiroshima, Oppenheimer, and the Manhattan Project. We get an in-depth look at the early history of atomic physics, the personalities of key scientists, politicians, and military leaders, the complex political and military issues surrounding the bomb's development and use, and the historic and social events that shaped its creation. This is NOT a beach read - better put aside two weeks and plenty of undivided attention before tackling it!I first read this book back in 2001, and I was totally enthralled by it, devouring it from cover to cover in four days. Having read it four times since then, some cracks have formed in its facade. Namely, it feels like two books grafted together - a decent one on the early history of nuclear physics, and an enthralling one on the actual making of the atomic bomb. The first 250 pages, while perhaps essential, tend to get bogged down by Rhodes' occasionally self-indulgent scene-setting (do we really need to know what shape the windows were?) and somewhat heavy philosophizing. Things pick up immensely with the actual discovery that the Uranium atom can be split, but I can see why some people give up early on. The "making of" is told with a remarkable lack of sensationalizing and sermonizing, and as horrific as the accounts of the actual bombings are, Rhodes is remarkably nonjudgmental about the bomb's use. People looking for pointed criticisms or historical revisionism will probably be disappointed; although Rhodes clearly abhors war, he seems to view Hiroshima and Nagasaki as the inevitable climax of an increasingly savage conflict against an enemy which refused to surrender. Considering how emotionally charged most books on nuclear weapons are, I actually admired Rhodes' somewhat pragmatic approach. Then again, it might leave others cold and confused.Although it's not the flawless masterpiece I once held it as, "The Making of the Atomic Bomb" is still a pretty solid tome. It's big, multi-layered, thought-provoking, darkly funny, disturbing, richly detailed, philosophical... and just a tad over-rated. The first third is somewhat rough going, and, in retrospect, could have used some careful editing. The last 500 pages, however, are among the best history writing I've ever read. If the early history of nuclear weapons and nuclear physics fascinates you, give it a shot. You just need some patience going in.

About the Author
Kitty Scott has held positions as Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto; Director of Visual Arts, The Banff Centre, Banff; Chief Curator, the Serpentine Gallery, London, and Curator of Contemporary Art at the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa. As an arts educator, she has been a visiting professor for the Curatorial Practice Program at the California College of the Arts, San Francisco; as well as an adjunct professor at York University, Toronto, and the University of British Columbia, Vancouver. Scott has curated many significant exhibitions, and was an agent for dOCUMENTA (13) (2012), Kassel. She was the Canadian coordinator for the Seventh International Istanbul Biennial (2001), and also worked on the inaugural SITE Santa Fe Biennial (1995). She organized the curatorial symposium Are Curators Unprofessional? (2010) at The Banff Centre, and edited the resulting publication Raising Frankenstein: Curatorial Education and Its Discontents (2010). Scott has written extensively on contemporary art for catalogues and journals including Parachute, Parkett, Mousse, and Canadian Art. My mid-life crisis came early; I was only 23 when I began pondering the purpose of my life. Desperately unhappy with where I was, and the future that I could see for myself, I made a crazy decision to sacrifice everything and follow my heart.

It took three years for my heart to speak, but when it did, the call was clear. I dropped out of university, said goodbye to friends and family, stuffed my life into a 25-litre backpack, and set off into the unknown.

What followed was a five year African adventure that carried me to places, and through experiences, that I could never have imagined in my wildest dreams.

Philen Naidu is a spiritual adventure novelist, freelance reporter and humanitarian.
He has lived a life away from convention, exploring society andcultures around the world - from bustling 1st world cities tocomparatively dormant 3rd world villages - constantly asking thequestion:

'How do we live in harmony - within ourselves, with Nature andwith each other - in a rapidly developing world that is becoming oneglobal village without borders?'
